What type of AI use is acceptable?
In today’s climate, we’re all making decisions when it comes to the ways in which we’re inviting AI into our lives.
Some of us only use it when it’s forced upon us by our jobs or through using social media and web tools that implement AI into their basic functions.
Others use it more willingly, by engaging with chatbots, or using AI in creative endeavors–to write, make art, etc. that is to say, they’re using generative AI tools on their own time.
That is ALWAYS wrong.
Still, I now have to decide how far I’m willing to take my aversion to AI…if my job one day asks me to use AI tools…do I quit?
It’s a conundrum.
Choosing the Lesser Evil
So far, I do not use AI tools in any form or fashion–even at work. I don’t use it for ideas, for writing, for editing, or for anything in between. I’ve never queried an AI chatbot and have no plans to.
My work-based activity with AI is limited to the human created scripts I write being converted–without any of my input–into AI media–the micro drama business is, after all and unsurprisingly, an AI bastion.
It still hurts, but it’s a living. And…seeing as I still DO NOT USE GENERATIVE AI TOOLS at work, home, or in building my business, I remain true to my purpose–no generative AI ever.
But soon I will have to ask the question, am I a part of the problem if what I create with my human hands and mind ends up joining the bubbling vat of AI slop? And if the answer is yes…
What then? Do I give up a well-paying job only to find another job that will, undoubtedly, (blindly) tout the glory of AI use?
As I type this, I don’t have the answer. Do you?
